In 2025, Day One Tech was contracted to pilot a groundbreaking afterschool program in collaboration with the Reynolds School District's Special Education department. This unique initiative is being implemented across three elementary schools and represents a robust recognition of Day One Tech's culturally responsive, trauma-informed approach to afterschool enrichment. By aligning our core values with the needs of students with special education needs (SPED), this pilot combines inclusive education with creative STEM-based learning.

Update - Unfortunately, this project has been cancelled due to district-wide budget reductions, with funds reallocated to preserve critical staff positions. While we fully understand and support this decision, we remain committed to working collaboratively with Reynolds School District and other educational partners to identify alternative pathways, funding strategies, and initiatives that continue to provide equitable and enriching opportunities for all students.

Day One Tech stands ready to adapt, innovate, and co-create solutions that sustain access to high-quality, inclusive learning experiences for every child.

Many afterschool programs fail to meet the intellectual, emotional, and behavioral needs of students with disabilities or undiagnosed learning differences. Day One Tech's approach is different. Our program acknowledges these gaps and builds an equitable, inclusive space that supports:

• Students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
   
• Students who are high-needs but undiagnosed
   
• Neurodivergent learners and students facing trauma or instability
   

• Cohort-Based Enrichment: Small groups of students, including 10–20% with IEPs, participate in inclusive sessions that foster social-emotional learning, executive function, and STEM exploration.
   
• Specialized Staff: All instructors have experience in Special Education settings and utilize SPED-informed techniques that benefit all learners.
   
• Whole-Class Impact: While the pilot is designed for a specific group, it intentionally creates environments that elevate the learning experience for everyone in the class, not just those with documented needs.
   
• STEM, Art, and Movement-Based Activities: Lessons are tailored to support sensory needs, attention challenges, and emotional regulation through interactive, hands-on experiences.
   

To ensure quality and impact, the program includes 36 hours of paid planning and post-term reflection time for instructors, allowing for thoughtful adaptation and consistent improvement across both the Spring and Summer terms.

This pilot reflects Day One Tech's ongoing commitment to equity, innovation, and healing-centered engagement. We are proud to help the Reynolds School District set a new standard for afterschool programs that embrace every learner, especially those often left behind.
