The OKLA initiative is designed to empower individuals and communities by creating Opportunities for Kinship, Leadership, and Action. This project aims to bridge the gap between under-resourced communities and the organizations, services, and opportunities available to them. By fostering deep connections, collaboration, and leadership development, OKLA ensures that community members have equitable access to resources, knowledge, and opportunities, enabling them to thrive in today’s fast-changing world.

OKLA believes in the power of relationships, shared responsibility, and leadership to drive lasting change and empowerment. People need fast access to resources—resources that can help them navigate daily challenges and move beyond trauma. By understanding what each organization offers and does best, we equip community members with the tools they need to create a plan for upward mobility and long-term success.

This work brings together partners and community members to create a seamless network of connections, providing easy access to spaces of empowerment. It is designed to be culturally responsive, adaptable, and swift in meeting the evolving needs of the community.

The word OKLA, meaning "people" in Choctaw, embodies the resilience and strength of Indigenous cultures. It serves as a reminder of the unbreakable bond within a community, where people come together in times of adversity. The Choctaw people's journey, particularly the painful Trail of Tears, is a testament to their enduring spirit and the power of collective unity.

OKLA draws inspiration from this journey, focusing on overcoming systemic barriers and uniting people from all communities for a common goal: fostering opportunities for connection, leadership, and action. Just as the Choctaw people navigated their hardships with strength and determination, OKLA is committed to creating a space where mutual support, shared responsibility, and inclusive leadership can thrive. It is a journey of healing, empowerment, and resilience, grounded in the belief that the strength of one contributes to the strength of all.
